Man Gets 3 Years in Prison in Child Abduction Case
JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - A man from Texas has been sentenced to three years in prison for helping hide a central Missouri girl in a crawl space under her mother's living room.
The Jefferson City News Tribune reports 41-year-old Christopher West, of Houston, was charged with perjury and child abduction.
Authorities say that in 2008, West and 40-year-old Rebecca Albrecht hid 11-year-old Bailey Vieth in the mother's home in New Bloomfield. A hole was cut in the floor and it was covered with plywood, carpeting and a sofa.
Albrecht and her ex-husband were involved in a custody battle when the child was abducted. West eventually told authorities about his role and brought law officers to the girl.
Albrecht was convicted in 2009 of child abduction and perjury. She is on supervised probation.
