Man killed by police was also shot by officers in 2009
ST. LOUIS (AP) - The 23-year-old man fatally shot by St. Louis police was also wounded by officers in 2009 after raising a gun at them.
Ledarius Williams of St. Louis County died Tuesday after being shot during a struggle with two officers in a gangway between two homes.
Police say Williams ran from officers with his hand at his waistband after they saw him acting suspiciously. He allegedly produced a handgun as officers struggled to arrest him. One of the officers fatally shot him.
Police confirmed Wednesday that Williams was shot by police after raising a gun at two officers in 2009. He pleaded guilty to two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer and was sentenced to 14 years in prison but released on parole in March.
