COLUMBIA - Water balloons flew across the University of Missouri's Tiger Plaza Wednesday as part of the "Launch Like A Granny" fundraiser. The organizer was MU student Chris Binkley, who said he decided on his own to do the fundraiser for Columbia's Granny's House. Granny's House is an after-school program for children who live in public housing.

The event invited people passing by to pay a dollar for the chance to launch a water balloon at targets set up at Tiger Plaza.  Those who hit the targets were eligible for prizes such as a basketball signed by the entire MU basketball team.

Binkley said the event turned out even better than he envisioned. "When I originally forecasted the vision for it all, I was only thinking of two launchers and maybe we'd get 15 volunteers. We've got 70 volunteers (and) we commissioned two more launchers. I never thought we would get this many people out here," Binkley said.

Binkley and the rest of his volunteers are hoping for more than 1000 launchers.
