Man recovers in University Hospital after falling from a tree
HOWARD COUNTY - A man fell from a tree stand Tuesday while cutting branches to make shooting lanes for hunting. The accident took place on the Katy Trail in the Diana Bend Conservation Area near Rocheport.
Howard County deputies and medics took the man to University Hospital by helicopter around 11 a.m. Howard County Conservation Agent Tyler Mason said the fall was about 12 feet.
“He suffered possible head and arm injuries,” Mason said.
Mason did not know the man’s current condition. He said though the stand was secured to the tree, hunters should still wear safety harnesses.
"You know, make sure that your tree stands are in good shape, make sure that your safety equipment is in good shape as well, and always wear that - even if you’re not actively hunting,” he said.
Tuesday was the last day of firearms turkey hunting for the year, while the upcoming portion of firearms deer hunting begins November 11.
