CAPE GIRARDEAU (AP) — A southeastern Missouri investigator says his department won't recommend charges against a woman who killed her husband by running him down with a car after he threatened her and a child.

Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department Capt. David James tells the Southeast Missourian the investigation so far indicates Lonnie Masters' wife acted in self-defense when she hit him with a vehicle Saturday.

Authorities have said that earlier that day, 45-year-old Masters had abducted his wife and their 4-year-old child, and he threated to kill them and himself.

Investigators say that after driving around with them, Masters returned to a residence where the wife was able to escape and get into another vehicle.

Masters was charged in October with domestic assault, unlawful use of a weapon and child endangerment.
