Man Who Got Arrested on Purpose Has Second Thoughts
ST. JOSEPH (AP) - A Missouri man who intentionally got himself arrested late last year so he would have a place to stay is having second thoughts about the decision that landed him a four-year prison sentence.
The Kansas City Star reports 43-year-old Roy Murphy had been out of prison a year and a half when he walked into a St. Joseph convenience store in November and asked the clerk to give him all of the money in the cash register. He didn't threaten her or display a weapon, encouraged her to call police and was caught 10 minutes after casually walking away from the store.
Murphy, who already had spent nearly 14 years behind bars, was sentenced in December to four years. He won't be eligible for parole until November 2015.
