Man who lost sheriff's election by 4 votes seeks recount
OZARK (AP) - A man who narrowly lost an election in a southwest Missouri sheriff's race said he wants a recount.
Ralph Phillips lost to new Christian County Sheriff Brad Cole by only four votes out of more than 10,000 cast in the Aug. 4 election.
KYTV reports the recount request would be heard Monday by Christian County Circuit Judge Laura Johnson, who needed to issue an order for the county clerk to conduct a recount.
Phillips asked for a recount even though Cole hired him as a lieutenant after the election.
Cole said Wednesday the recount request didn't affect his decision to hire Phillips.
The new sheriff would replace Joey Kyle, who resigned and faced a year in federal prison after pleading guilty to embezzlement and money laundering.
