Maries County deputies rescue dog from island in frozen pond
BELLE - A dog is safe and recovering after a rescue effort by Maries County deputies and a dive team Tuesday night.
According to the Maries County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, deputies and members of the the Mid-Missouri Sheriff's Dive Team went to a home off County Road 315, and found a dog on an island in the middle of a frozen pond. They said the dog appeared to be "wet, cold and exhausted."
Divers got into the pond and broke a path through the ice to get to the island, and were able to bring the dog back to land safely.
The post said the dog is expected to make a full recovery.
