Mayor Gives Police and Board Two Month Deadline
COLUMBIA - Columbia Mayor Bob McDavid announced Monday night that Columbia Police and the Citizen Police Review Board have 2 months to settle differences.
The two groups have been at odds over changes to the board's ordinances.
The mayor asked CPD and the Review Board to submit reviews of their requests. He then summarized them into seven sticking points. Those include the definition of misconduct, who can make appeals, what records should be open, whether the board should hold closed sessions, board training recommendations, whether police policies should be posted, and how complaints should be reported.
McDavid said the city will step in if the two groups can't reach an agreement before the two month deadline.
