McCaskill wants to work with residents, Ameren

JEFFERSON CITY -- A dispute at Missouri's Lake of the Ozarks is shifting attention from federal regulators to Ameren Missouri, which operates the dam that created the lake.

Some property owners and officials criticized Ameren during a conference call with U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill on Friday. McCaskill says she wants to be a "go-between" for residents and Ameren.

Some residents feared that they could lose their homes after the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission said in July that many structures built too close to the lake may have to be removed.

The commission on Thursday directed Ameren to redraw its territory around the lake by June. Officials believe that will allow many homes to be considered outside the hydroelectric project's boundaries.
