Salute to Veterans Airshow

At the Columbia Missouri Regional Airport there will be a free airshow May 26-27, 2007. This is the 19th Anniversary of the airshow, which started as a weekend event and now has become a year-round process with a monthly newsletter and over 3,000 volunteers. Featured at the airshow will be the Virtual Army Experience and many different types of aircraft.

 

Salute to Veterans Parade

Columbia will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade  on Monday, May 28th in downtown.  The parade begins around 9:45 a.m. and will feature more than 100 floats.  Veterans of the Armed Forces will be in attendance to march in the parade.  Admission is free.

 

Turtle Race

Zion Lutheran School in Lone Elm will hold the 31st Annual Memorial Day turtle race on Monday.  Registration begins at 9 a.m.  There will be turtles availible at the event for those who don't have their own, so everyone is welcome to come down and participate in the race.  Lunch will be served.

 

Car Show

The Mid-Missouri Cruisers Car Club will sponsor the 7th Annual Cruise-In on Sunday, May 27th  in the parking lot of Fayette High School.  The show begins at 4 p.m. and is open to owners of any kind of car, truck, or motorcycle.  There is a $10 fee for those entering vehicles in the show, while viewers get in free.  The event will also include a barbecue, music, door prizes, and a poker run.

 

Vietnam Vet to Lead Service

Bill Cowell, a veteran of the Marine Corps, will be the keynote speaker at the annual Memorial Day service in Fayette.  The service will take place on Sunday at 2 p.m. on the south side of the courthouse lawn.  Reverend Jamie Page of Faith Family Church will provide the music.  The topic of Cowell's speech will be "Freedom is Not Free."
