Memorial Day Weekend Offers Many Activities
COLUMBIA - Columbia is getting ready for a busy weekend. There are many events to look out for as we head into Memorial Day Weekend.
The weekend kicks off with a two-day salute to Veterans Air show at the Columbia Regional Airport on Saturday and Sunday.
The Canadian Forces Snowbirds return to Columbia for the show after a 12 year break.The air show is from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The show is free of charge and shuttle buses will be available for use in Columbia and Jefferson City. They will begin boarding at 9 a.m. and run until the end of the show. The shuttles pick up at MU's Hearnes Center or The Jefferson City Airport.
Safety at the Air Show:
- No Fly-ins, take the shuttle instead
- No picnic baskets, coolers or other containers
- No bicycles, scooters or pets
- Smoking is not allowed inside the gates
Following the Airshow is the 26th annual Veteran's Day Parade. The Golden Knights Parachute Team will parachute into intersections on Broadway in Downtown Columbia. The aircraft from the Airshow will fly overhead as a tribute to fallen comrades.
The parade will end at Boone County Courthouse and directly following will be a military ceremony.
In addition there is the annual Memorial Day concert honoring fallen soldiers and their families through music in Jefferson City.
The Monticello Singers will also return to the rotunda of the Missouri State Capitol Monday at 3 p.m.
