Memorial to Celebrate Life of Bus Crash Victim

COLUMBIA - University of Missouri's Cultural Association of India is holding a memorial service for bus accident victim Aditi Avhad this evening. The service will be held at Memorial Union on the MU campus at 7 p.m.

Avhad was a University of Missouri student admitted to the health administration graduate program for fall 2012. According to the university she was on track to complete her master's degree in 2013.

University of Missouri chancellor Brady Deaton said Thursday, "Members of the MU community are saddened today to learn of the death of one of our students, Ms. Aditi Avhad. She was a stellar student who made great contributions to the knowledge-building mission of the university. All of our hearts are a little heavier today as we grieve this loss. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her parents."

Avhad died Thursday from injuries sustained in a bus accident that occured at 1:20 p.m. Thursday afternoon. There were 70 passengers on board the bus, and Avhad was the was the only fatality from the accident.  Avhad and her parents were aboard the Megabus that was southbound from Chicago to St. Louis along Interstate 55 when the bus struck a bridge support pillar just north of Litchfield, Illinois.
