Men walk a mile in heels for sexual violence awareness
JEFFERSON CITY - A group of men participated in the "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event to raise awareness of sexual violence and abuse.
The event happened on Tuesday night, where even heavy rainfall didn't stop the participants from doing the mile-long walk in high heels. Men of all ages were encouraged to join, while the women were told to relax and watch the event while enjoying some food and live music. Each participant was asked to pay a registration fee, where the proceeds will go towards rape crisis centers and domestic abuse shelters.
Gretchen Nicholson, the event coordinator, said she's hoping this event will not only cover sexual violence towards women, but men as well.
"Sometimes men are also victims, and this community does provide services to both men, women and children who are victims of domestic abuse and sexualized violence," Nicholson said.
After the event, prizes were given for the men who raised the most money and who had the best shoes.
