Michigan Man in Custody After Car Chase
SALINE COUNTY - A car chase ending in Saline County led to the arrest of a wanted Michigan man.
Around 9 a.m. on Thursday, Cooper County Sheriff's Deputies received a tip about a possible stolen vehicle from Kalamazoo, Mich. headed westbound on I-70.
Deputies set up and soon spotted the silver Ford SUV and checked the plates to verify the stolen vehicle. When deputies tried to pull over the car, the driver refused and increased speeds to 100 mph.
The suspect turned off I-70 at the Blackwater exit and eventually crossed into Saline County where he turned into a cornfield off Saline County Road 118. Deputies followed him and cornered him at a wooded fence line and proceeded to take him into custody.
Deputies identified the driver as 30-year-old Ross Emerson Culver, an escapee from a county jail in Kalamazoo. He has several outstanding Michigan warrants. He is also a suspect in an armed robbery at a gas station in Kalamazoo.
Culver is being held at the Cooper County Detention Center on Michigan warrants for escape and failure to appear on a burglary charge. He has no bond and deputies are submitting paperwork to the Cooper County Prosecutor today for charged related to the pursuit.
