Mid-Missouri Kids Get Hands-On in the Kitchen
COLUMBIA - Dozens of Mid-Missouri kids got a chance to get hands-on in the kitchen today. The Columbia Regional Library hosted a cooking workshop for kids and their parents.
Children learned about proper hand washing, how to peel vegetables and even got to make their own pita pockets. Event organizers say the main focus is to bring families together during meal time and to get kids excited about the cooking process. One parent says cooking with your kids can help promote healthy eating habits.
"It's something that's so easy to do, just incorporating them and sometimes I forget about it...Involving them in meal-time prep. If they are involved in the snack I think that helps them have some ownership in eating the carrot or the cucumber," said Bobbie Goodwin.
The library has hosted the program for about five years.
