A Randolph County judge issued a restraining order Friday, barring Sheriff Aaron Wilson from accessing county monies and assets, according to court records.

The restraining order signed by Judge Scott Hayes said "certain cash withdrawals and purchases have been made on accounts of [Randolph County] that [Wilson] has access to but not [Randolph County.]"

The order further cited a "lack of oversight" by the county over Wilson regarding those withdrawals and purchases, and said "irreparable harm" could be done if it turned out that any of them were "improper."

In a motion for the order, Randolph County attorneys allege that Wilson and the Randolph County Sheriff's Office have "certain bank accounts...titled in the name of [Wilson and the sheriff's office] only, that contain funds in which [Randolph County] may have a lawful interest.

The motion also claims "some unauthorized or inappropriate transactions may have occurred...including...a cash withdrawal...of $7,000 and the purchase of a vehicle for personal use taking advantage of government discounts available for county purchases."

The restraining order bars Wilson from "transferring, encumbering, concealing or in any way disposing of any property, assets or funds held in all bank accounts holding funds or receipts of county monies, inmate funds, accounts receivable, petty cash and operating funds."

If Wilson or the Randolph County Sheriff's Office wishes to make any purchases with county resources, the order said they have to get written approval and account for all such actions to the court.

A hearing over the order and whether it should continue is scheduled for Nov. 4.
