Mild weather helps road work start early
ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The mild weather so far this winter means an early start to road work in the St. Louis region.
Missouri Department of Transportation district engineer Ed Hassinger told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/W48Zg2 ) that extensive improvements along the region's interstate highways are getting started this month.
MoDOT crews will close a stretch of Interstate 64 from Jan. 25 to Jan. 27 to remove a bridge at Newstead and Taylor avenues.
Other big projects scheduled to begin soon include widening southbound Interstate 270 between Dougherty Ferry Road and
Interstate 44; widening and resurfacing Route 109 in Wildwood; building a new westbound I-64 bridge over the Missouri River at Weldon Spring; and replacing the westbound bridge over the Missouri River on Interstate 70 at St. Charles.
