Miller County deputy killed in head-on crash
MILLER COUNTY - Casey Shoemate, a 26-year-old Miller County sheriff's deputy, died Friday night after colliding head-on with another vehicle on Highway Y near Rabbit Hill Road south of Eldon.
The Missouri Highway Patrol said Shoemate was responding to an emergency call and attempted to pass a fire truck responding to an unrelated call when he collided with the oncoming vehicle around 6:05 pm.
The driver of the other vehicle, Robert Levin of Florissant, was seriously injured and was flown to University Hospital in Columbia.
Shoemate's family has been notified.
Shoemate previously worked for the Eldon Police Department and the Versailles Police Department, according to a news release.
