Missouri Braces for High River Levels
JEFFERSON CITY - The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is showing water levels on the rise after an unusually wet winter. Minor flooding may be in the works for mid-Missouri towns along the Missouri River including Gasconade, Glasgow and Boonville. DNR maps show the Missouri River could reach near flood stage by Wednesday in these communities.
Here are some common flooding terms and meanings from the DNR:
Minor flooding - minimal or no property damage, but possibly some public threat.
Moderate flooding - some inundation of structures and roads near stream. Some evacuations of people and/or transfer of property to higher elevations.
Major flooding - extensive inundation of structures and roads. Significant evacuations of people and/or transfer of property to higher elevations.
