Missouri Firm Sentenced for Fake Safety Labels on Lamps
SPRINGFIELD - A southwest Missouri company has been ordered to forfeit about $1.8 million worth of lamps imported from its Chinese manufacturer because they had counterfeit safety labels.
The U.S. Attorney's office says GuildMaster Inc. was also placed on five years' probation at sentencing Friday in Springfield.
The Springfield company makes and imports furniture, lighting, accessories wall art. GuildMaster, represented by its president, Stephen Crowder, pleaded guilty in July to trafficking in goods with counterfeit marks.
Federal customs agents seized nearly 5,600 lamps imported by GuildMaster in December 2011 after discovering their Underwriters Laboratories labels were counterfeit.
