Missouri Methodists Plan 9/11 Weekend Projects
COLUMBIA - More than 320 Methodist churches across the state of Missouri have pledged to volunteer their services to the community this 9/11 weekend.
As part of the Serve 2011 campaign, Columbia Methodist leaders have organized volunteer projects that range from lawn mowing to home repair. "This is a really great thing happening," Fairway United Methodist Pastor Kate McClain said. "It's time to take the church outside and into the community."
Fairway is one of the six Methodist churches in Columbia collaborating on the effort. Pastor Keith Vessell of the Columbia United Methodist Church said the event is a more powerful service for the ten year anniversary of the World Trade Center attack.
Columbia participants will begin Saturday and continue their work through Sunday afternoon.
