Missouri's presidential ballot loaded with contentious races
KANSAS CITY (AP) — Hillary Clinton is seeking to become the first Democrat to carry Missouri's electoral votes since her husband, and competitive races for governor and Senate also top the state's ballot.
From 1904 through 2004, Missouri voters sided with the winning presidential candidate every time but once. But lately, Republicans have dominated.
The race to succeed Jay Nixon has been the nation's most expensive governor's race. Republican political newcomer Eric Greitens, a former Navy SEAL officer, is facing two-term Attorney General Democrat Chris Koster.
GOP Sen. Roy Blunt also faces a steep challenge from Democratic Secretary of State Jason Kander.
Even down the ballot, there are some famous last names with both a Carnahan and an Ashcroft seeking statewide offices. Voters also will decide several ballot issues.
