Missouri softball sweeps doubleheader
CHARLESTON, S.C. - No. 17 Missouri Tigers softball swept the second day of its double headers, defeating both No. 14 James Madison and Charleston Southern.
In game one, the Tigers (3-1) defeated James Madison eight runs to four. The scoring started in the first inning with a two-run home run off the bat of catcher Kirsten Mack, her first of the season. Sophomore first baseman Rylee Pierce also contributed with a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
Freshman Parker Conrad picked up the first win of her career, surrendering just two unearned runs in four innings.
The second game was dominated by the Tigers. Mizzou shut out Charleston Southern behind 5.1 innings from Cheyenne Baxter. It was Baxter's first win of the season.
Mizzou took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a RBI ground out from freshman Cayla Kessinger. The score held until the sixth inning, when the Tigers added cushion on a sacrifice fly from Anna Reed and a double steal, bringing Mack home from third.
The Tigers split the meetings against the same opponents Friday, beating Charleston Southern and losing to James Madison.
Mizzou will conclude their Charleston trip Sunday in a matchup against USC Upstate.
