COLUMBIA, South Carolina - The No. 20 Missouri softball team defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks, 4-2, today after a strong performance from Paige Lowary.

Lowary now has wins in all seven of her starts to start her college career. Lowary pitched a complete game giving up just four hits and two unearned runs.

For the sixth straight season, Missouri has began conference play with a win.

The Tigers are now 11-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play with wins in three-straight games.

Missouri wasted little time before it got on the board as Angela Randazzo scored off Kelsea Roth's single to right field giving Mizzou a 1-0 lead after two innings.

In the top of the third inning, Sami Fagan hit a single to the right leading off the inning with one on base and one out. Corrin Genovese later scored Fagan off an RBI single to bring Missouri's lead to two.

Lowary pitched two hitless innings, but that came to an end in the bottom of the third inning as the Gamecocks got their first hit of the game and then had runners at the corners off a bunt. South Carolina later scored two runs off Lowary to tie the game at two after three innings.

Lowary did not allow another run for the rest of the game and gave up just one hit in the next four innings.

Genovese added to her hit total in the top of the fifth inning with a double for her second of three hits on the day. Genovese stole third with two outs with Kirsten Mack at the plate. Mack hit a deep home run over the center wall giving helping Missouri to victory.

Mack's home run is her third of the season in just 44 at bats after recording three homers on 80 at bats last season.

Missouri will look for its second win of the series against South Carolina on Sunday, March 8 at 5 p.m. CT.
