Missouri Sportsmen Rally at Capitol
JEFFERSON CITY - Missouri sportsmen descended upon the Capitol Wednesday as the Conservation Federation of Missouri and the Missouri Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus co-hosted the first ever Missouri Sportsmen's Rally.
The rally took place in the Capitol rotunda, and while there remained a handful of empty seats, Conservation Federation of Missouri Executive Director Dave Murphy said he was satisfied with the turnout.
The rally marks the Department of Conservation's 75th anniversary and served as a funnel for supporters to talk to legislators firsthand. Many spoke to Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Springfield, who serves as the caucus chairman.
Murphy said the caucus also serves as a way to thank legislators for funding that currently goes to preserving sufficient Missouri wildlife. Since 1976, state sales taxes - set at one-eighth of every cent - have netted the MDC what Murphy termed to be "millions of dollars."
