Missouri Takes Third at Chicago Style Invite

CHICAGO -- The Missouri Gymnastics Team took third among the nation's best on Friday.The Tigers posted a 195.525 team score to finish just behind No. 7 UCLA (196.850) and No. 15 Boise State. Mizzou finished ahead of No. 19 Illinois, who posted a 195.100.

Senior Mary Burke took the all-around title at the meet with a score of 39.375. She finished ahead of UCLA's Samantha Peszek who came into the meet undefeated in the all-around.

The Tigers started the meet on beam this time, putting up a team score of 48.700. Junior Tori Howard had an excellent performance, putting up a 9.775 score. Freshman Laura Kappler recorded a 9.725 in the lead-off position. Taylor Medrea, Cathryn Aliceaacosta and Rachel Updike also recorded 9.725 scores on the event. Mary Burke posted a 9.750.

After the first rotation, UCLA led with a 49.275 on vault. Boise State posted a 48.900 on floor and Illinois scored 48.850 on bars.

Next for the Tigers was the floor. Energetic as always, Missouri put up a strong team score of 48.900. Burke posted a 9.850 to lead Mizzou, and Updike put up a 9.825. Both Briana Conkle and Katelyn Trevino recorded 9.775 scores, and Medrea posted a 9.725. Howard also contributed to the lineup with a 9.700.

After the second rotation, UCLA led the meet with a 98.450 followed by Boise State who scored 98.100. Illinois scored 97.725 and Missouri totaled 97.600.

The Tigers moved on to vault for the third rotation. Putting up a team score of 48.900 on the event, Missouri improved its team total to 146.575. Burke scored a 9.875 on her vault followed by freshman Kelsy Landreth who scored 9.825. Howard posted a 9.800 and Updike scored a 9.750. Brittani Price recorded a 9.725 on her vault and Rebecca Johnson scored 9.650.

Missouri finished the meet on bars, earning a bars score of 48.950 to finish with a final tally of 195.525. Both Price and Sandra Ostad earned 9.750 scores on their routines, and Mackenzie McGill put up a 9.725. Seniors Burke and Allie Heizelman stepped up on bars earning scores of 9.900 and 9.825, respectively, as well. Burke's score put her in a tie for the bars title with Olivia Courtney of UCLA.

The Tigers host Oklahoma on Friday, Feb. 17 at 6:30 P.M
