Missouri volleyball looks ahead to big week after road setback
Columbia, SC - The Missouri volleyball team had its eight match winning streak snapped Friday night in an exciting five set loss at South Carolina. The Tigers held leads of two sets to one and 12-8 in the deciding fifth set. A 7-1 run in the fifth set by the Gamecocks, however, finished the game and sent the Tigers back to Missouri with a hard fought loss.
Kylie Deberg topped 19 kills for the third time this season as she paced Missouri in kills with 19. The setter Andrea Fuentes now has back to back games with over 50 assists as she tallied 53 in the defeat.
Missouri (20-5, 10-3 SEC) is far from out of it in the SEC, however. The loss was just the Tigers’ fifth on the season, and their first since September. The Tigers now sit in fourth overall in the conference, three games behind unbeaten in conference Kentucky. Missouri will head to the plains to visit Auburn Wednesday, where they will look to bounce back from Friday’s road loss. Mizzou beat Auburn, who sits second to last in the SEC, in four sets at home during the heart of its eight game win streak last month.
