Missouri Women's basketball avenges loss to Arkansas
Missouri Women's basketball (20-6, 7-6 SEC) defeated Arkansas (10-15, 5-7 SEC) 69-48 in a rematch in Columbia, Missouri Sunday. The Razorbacks won the first meeting 64-52 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The Tigers have earned their first 20 win season since the 2005-2006 season.
Senior guard Morgan Stock led the charge for the Tigers three point assult. The Tigers made 8 out of 24 shots (33.3 percent) from behind the arc. Stock made 5 of Missouri's 8 3-pointers which tied her career high for 3-pointers made in a game. Stock finished the game leading all scorers with 17 points.
In the first quarter, Missouri went back and forth with the Razorbacks. Arkansas led in the first for 3:21 but Missouri closed the quarter though on a 10-2 run which gave them a 19-10 lead going into the second quarter.
Missouri never looked back from their and lead for 36:13. The Tigers ran up the score in the second quarter and outscored Arkansas 23-7 which gave Missouri a 42-17 lead at the half after Missouri shot 16 out of 31 (51.6 percent) from the field. Arkansas only made 7 out of 30 (23.3 percent) from the field.
The largest lead for the Tigers came in the third quarter. With 4:36 in the third, the Tigers lead grew to 31 points. Freshman guard Sophie Cunningham made 2 of 2 shots in the third, adding to the 8 assists, and 5 rebounds she contributed.
Arkansas outscored Missouri in the fourth quarter 17-11 but it wasn't enough to comeback as the Tigers won by 21 points.
Missouri's next game will be played on Sunday, Feb. 21 against the Auburn Tigers in Auburn, Alabama. Auburn (18-8, 8-5 SEC) is coming off a win against No. 16 Florida at home where they won 80-58. The win over the Gators was their fifth straight win, and Katie Frerking recorded a double double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
