Missouri women's basketball notches fifth straight victory
St. Louis - The 23rd ranked Missouri women’s basketball team started fast and finished strong in its 74-62 road victory at St. Louis University (4-6) on Sunday. Mizzou (8-2) scored 50 of its 74 points in the first and fourth quarters, 25 in each, and improved to 8-2 on the year.
It was the dynamic duo of Sophie Cunningham and Amber Smith leading the way for the Tigers. Cunningham led the team in scoring with 18, while Smith picked up her sixth double-double of the season with a 15 point, 13 rebound effort. Smith dominated the glass, as her 13 rebounds were eight more than the next highest total for either team.
After going 3-12 from deep in Thursday’s win over UMKC, the three point shooting returned for the Tigers Sunday. They drilled nine threes, four in both the first and fourth quarters, as the Tigers used the three point shot to expand the lead anytime the Billikens began to threaten.
The Tigers will have a bit of a break to rest their legs this week while they await their next game Saturday as South Dakota visits Columbia.
