Mizzou baseball falls to Air Force
COLUMBIA - Air Force snapped the Missouri baseball team (16-5, 3-0) six-game winning streak Wednesday, 4-2.
The Falcons (9-10) scored the first two runs of the game in the third inning on RBIs from senior Noah Pierce and sophomore Tyler Jones. The Tigers got a run back in the fourth inning when sophomore Ryan Howard scored on a balk by Air Force starter Trent Monaghan. Pierce responded in the fifth with a two-run home run, one of his three hits on the afternoon.
Missouri threatened a big inning in the home half of the eighth. The Tigers had two runners on and nobody out to start the inning, but only scored one run. Freshman Trey Harris hit a sacrifice fly that scored Howard for the second time.
The game started an hour and a half earlier than scheduled due to forecasted rain in Columbia. Senior starter Andrew Schwaab threw two scorless innings, giving up two hits before giving way to four relievers. Senior Jace James took the loss and allowed two runs and three hits in one inning of work.
Missouri will play South Carolina next. The No. 5 Gamecocks (17-4, 3-0) will be in town for a three-game weekend series at Taylor Stadium starting Friday night.
