Mizzou Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Central Michigan

COLUMBIA- The Missouri Baseball team split a doubleheader on Sunday (March 20) with Central Michigan at Taylor Stadium. The Tigers won the first game by a score of 8-6, and dropped the second game, 8-1. Missouri has won eight of its last 12 and had a six game winning streak snapped with the loss. Missouri won the series with Central Michigan, winning three of four games this weekend.

Missouri 8, Central Michigan 6

The Tigers offense carried the team in the first game of the doubleheader, scoring six runs in the first three innings and adding runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Senior catcher Ryan Ampleman, junior third-baseman Conner Mach, and sophomore outfielder Dane Opel all had three hit games for the Tigers. Amplemann led the team with three RBI, Mach had one RBI, and Opel scored twice and had two RBI.

Senior Brad Buehler earned the win after pitching four innings of relief, allowing two earned runs, while striking out four batters. Senior left-hander Phil McCormick pitched the last 1.2 innings of the game, striking out three and allowing only one earned run.

Central Michigan 8, Missouri 1

Central Michigan starter Zack Cooper kept the Tigers off the scoreboard in the second game, going six innings, allowing only one run on four hits. Senior starter Jeff Scardino was given the loss after giving up five runs in 4.1 innings of work. Mach drove in the only run for the Tigers, scoring Ampelmann on a sacrifice fly.

The Tigers begin a two game series with Central Arkansas Tuesday at Taylor Stadium, before starting Big 12 Conference Play against Oklahoma Friday, also at Taylor Stadium.
