Mizzou baseball sweeps Western Illinois
COLUMBIA - After falling behind early, Mizzou powered back to complete the sweep over Western Illinois in a 7-4 victory on Sunday.
Western Illinois got off to a quick 2-0 lead in the first from a two-run shot, but Mizzou responded with a two-run bomb of their own in the bottom of the inning.
After getting one in the fourth, Peter Zimmermann added two more with a single to take a three-run lead.
The Leathernecks slowly crawled back to within one, tacking on one in the sixth and eighth, but it wasn't enough.
The Tigers added a couple insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth via the long ball from an Austin James two-run home run to put the game away.
Trey Dillard struck out the side in the ninth to secure the 7-4 win over the Western Illinois. With the win, Mizzou sweeps the Leathernecks and extends its winning streak to five.
Spencer Miles (1-0) picked up the win, while Jace Warkentien (0-4) suffered the loss. Dillard (4) earned the save.
Mizzou will begin a quick two-game series on Tuesday versus Northern Illinois before heading off to Tuscaloosa to play a three-game series against Alabama.
