COLUMBIA - Luke Schawo enjoys playing games outside and throwing a ball around just like any other four-year-old. But Luke has a scar underneath his cape that is unlike something most four-year-olds are used to. Since Luke was born in May 2006, he has undergone three open heart surgeries and recently was nominated to have his wish granted by Make-A-Wish.

Mizzou Chi Omega raised 12,000 dollars for Make-A-Wish and had the honor of granting Luke¹s wish to go to Disney World, and they hosted his Bon Voyage Party. At the party, Luke enjoyed ice cream and brownies, and he was greeted by hundreds of students, Mizzou Golden Girls, Miss Missouri USA, Mizzou Linebacker Darvin Rulse and Truman the Tiger. Luke played catch with the football the freshman linebacker had signed for him.

Make-A-Wish Communications Manager John Wolff was at the party and said, "The beauty of wishes like this is the child actually forgets they are sick, the family forgets that when they get home they will have surgeries and other things to worry about."

Luke¹s father, Keith Schawo agrees. "Sometimes you forget that he is sick, I mean I can¹t see inside his heart."

The Schawo family will be leaving for their week-long vacation at Disney World on May 23rd. Keith Schawo said, "He (Luke) wants to leave tonight!" While there, Luke is most excited to meet Buzz Lightyear and Mickey Mouse, but according to his father, "He loves all Disney characters and watches all the movies. Does that make me sound like a bad parent? For letting him watch TV all the time?"
