Mizzou Men Take Third in Big 12 Championship
COLUMBIA -- The University of Missouri men's swimming and diving took third place with 750.50 points at the 2012 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships at the Mizzou Aquatics Center. Overall over the four-day competition, Tigers claimed the 3 meter diving title, three individual second place swimming finishes, two second place diving finishes and placed second in the 200 free relay.
David Bonuchi concluded an impressive Championships weekend with a second place showing in the platform diving competition with a score of 451.25. Teammate Mitch Harris scored 276.00 points to finish in fourth place in the event. In earlier action, Bonuchi took home the 3 meter title and finished second in the 1 meter dive.
Mack Darragh had an impressive swim in the 200 fly to finish in second place with a time of 1:46.35, just behind two-time champion Neil Caskey of Texas.
The Tigers had four top-eight finishers in the 200 breast, including a third place showing from Igor Kozlovzskij, who swam a 1:57.81. Sam Tierney came in fifth with a time of 1:58.92, followed by Yaniv Shnaider in sixth in 2:00.61 and Michael Lopresti in eighth with a time of 2:02.59. In the consolation final, Mark Conroy finished first with a time of 2:01.64 and Joe Hladik was second in 2:03.17.
In the 100 free, Ramom Melo swam a 44.90 to earn a sixth place finish, while John Krause came in ninth as clocked a 45.93. Eegan Groome claimed fourth place in the 1650 free in an NCAA `B' qualifying time of 15:25.10. Additionally, Connor Nolan had a time of 15:46.30 to take sixth place and Andrew Phillips came in seventh with a 15:47.93. In the 200 back consolation finals, Robert Fish and Ryan Sellers finished one-two with times of 1:46.78 and 1:50.04, respectively.
Divers next compete at the Diving Zone Championships held in Iowa City, Iowa, March 8-10, while swimmers who have qualified for the NCAA Championships will travel to Seattle, Washington, for the event March 22-24.
