Mizzou's Daniel Lewis awarded MAC Wrestler of the Week
COLUMBIA, Mo.-- Missouri Wrestling's Daniel Lewis earned the Mid-American Conference's Wrestler of the Week award. Lewis is the second Tiger to take home the award this season after olympian and teammate J'den Cox did so earlier this month on Jan. 4. This is Lewis' first time receiving the honor.
Lewis' award comes on the heels of three bonus point road victories without yielding a single point to his opponents. The first was a 12-0 major decision over Austin Weigel of Buffalo on Jan. 12. Lewis was able to record two take downs in the opening period. He then went on to maintain his edge and get the final decision in his favor.
Lewis next defeated No. 16 Joey Galasso of Cornell by way of a 17-0 technical fall. Lewis finished by defeating Devan Marry of Eastern Michigan on Jan. 15. Lewis wasted no time, scoring 10 points in the first round before eventually taking the match by a score of 12-0.
This award adds to what has already been a career full of milestones for the 165 pound redshirt sophomore. Lewis was last years MAC Freshman of the Year coming off his fourth place finish at the 2016 NCAA Championships. Lewis is 17-2 on the season.
Mizzou Wrestling will next be in action at the Hearnes Center on Sunday to host No. 16 Central Michigan.
