Mizzou's David Bonuchi Punches Ticket to World Championships
TALLAHASSEE, FL - Junior diver David Bonuchi punched his ticket to the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona Sunday morning with a first-place finish in the men's synchronized platform finals at the USA Diving FINA World Championships Trials.
Bonuchi and diving partner Toby Stanley recorded a two-round score of 829.23 to finish 13.74 points ahead of second-place finishers Steele Johnson and Dashiell Enos. The duo posted 421.47 in the finals after a preliminary score of 407.76.
The Columbia native currently sits in second behind 2012 Olympic gold medalist David Boudia after two rounds of the men's platform competition. Bonuchi had scores of 422.90 in the prelims and 457.85 in the semifinals to enter finals with 880.75 points. The top two finishers advance to the FINA World Championships.
Bonuchi, already Mizzou's most decorated athlete in program history, is an eight-time All-American for the Tigers. He earned finishes of third (1-meter), seventh (3-meter) and eighth (platform) at this year's NCAA Championships.
