Mizzou's Doty Earns SEC Freshman of the Week Honors
COLUMBIA -- Freshman Lianna Doty was recognized by the Southeastern Conference on Monday after her stellar performances in Missouri's wins over Florida and No. 9 Tennessee.
The Tigers went 2-0 last week with Doty's help, she earned her first career double-double against Florida with 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in the game. She was just three assists away from a triple-double as she dished out seven dimes against Florida as well.
Doty also had a strong performance in Missouri's 80-63 upset of No. 9 Tennessee, tallying seven assists in that contest as well. Doty's 116 assists this season lead all freshmen in the league, and the number is five more than last season's Tiger assists leader, Kyley Simmons, who recorded 111 assists in 31 games.
Doty shot 60 percent from the three-point line last week, and 83.3 percent from the charity stripe.
The Tigers will take a break from games on Thursday before hosting Mississippi State on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. Sunday's contest will recognize the Play 4Kay initiative, helping to raise funds for breast cancer awareness as well.
