Mizzou Softball Stars Thomas, Taylor Make Team USA Roster
COLUMBIA - A pair of Missouri Tiger softball stars are wearing the red white and blue of the United States, and will be wearing the U.S. colors later this summer.
Tiger pitching ace Chelsea Thomas, and speedy outfielder Rhea Taylor made the Team USA roster earlier this month. Thomas has two years left at Mizzou, and Taylor just completed her Tiger career.
"It's crazy because this is one of my lifelong goals," Thomas said.
"My dad and I were talking about it when I went home. He said 'Yeah you told me you were going to do this in fourth grade.' So, it's pretty cool that it's actually getting to come true."
Taylor also had similar dreams from her childhood.
"I've been playing this since I was five years old. It's a dream come true," she said.
"It definitely takes on a whole new meaning. Red, white and blue, and I just like the fact that I get to play with the best players in the country."
Thomas also hopes that this dream come true is more than just a great experience.
"It's what I've been working for my whole life and it's finally here. I've got to reset some goals and hopefully a few gold medals will be coming," she said.
Thomas, Taylor and the USA players leave Thursday for Plant City, Fl., where they will play their first exhibition game. They will play in the World Cup of Softball next month, and the Pan American games in October.
