Mizzou Tennis Downs No. 62 Virginia Tech

COLUMBIA -- The University of Missouri tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over No. 62 Virginia Tech Saturday at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The win improved the Tigers' record to 5-4, while the Hokies fell to 7-3.

Missouri took the doubles point as the Tigers swept all three matches on the day. At No. 1 doubles, seniors Nina Pantic and Jamie Mera earned a hard fought 9-7 win over Courtney Rauscher and Martha Blakely. Sophomore Rachel Stuhlmann and junior Annemijn Koenen also prevailed 9-7 with a victory over Shannon Betts and Katie Blow. The Tigers earned the sweep as freshmen Alex Clark and Ashleigh Chiaf defeated Emily Lauten and Isel Martinez-Marcos, 8-6, at No. 3 doubles.

The Tigers also claimed five singles victories during the match. Despite dropping the first set, Pantic defeated Blakely, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1 singles. Stuhlmann, ranked No. 78 in the nation, recorded a straight set win over Martinez-Marcos, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2.

At No. 3 singles, junior Maria Christensen ousted Betts, 6-2, 6-1, and Mera had a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Rauscher at No. 4. Carol Kahoun took Clark to three sets but the freshman prevailed, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, at No. 5 singles.

Virginia Tech's Emiliy Lauten recorded a 6-3, 6-4, win over Koenen at No. 6 singles.
