Mizzou women's basketball takes down Ole Miss 72-58
COLUMBIA - The Mizzou women's basketball team looked to bounce back Sunday afternoon against Ole Miss after losing to Alabama on Thursday. The Tigers dominated the game at Mizzou Arena, defeating the Rebels 72-58. This win improved the Tigers' record to 14-12 overall and 4-9 in SEC play.
Senior Morgan Eye led the Tigers with 16 points and five rebounds. Two other Tigers also finished in double digits.
Mizzou's first pair of points came off the opening tip, with a bucket by sophomore Jordan Frericks. Fellow sophomore Sierra Michaelis followed Frericks' pair with a three of her own. The Tigers went in a 10-0 run in the first half in two minutes to go up 21-7. Juniors Maddie Stock and Michelle Hudyn led the Tigers going into the half with eight points apiece.
The Tigers' defense continued to dominate, holding the Revels to 28.9 percent in field goals while forcing six turnovers. The score at the half read 38-25 favoring the Tigers.
Although Ole Miss registered 27 offensive rebounds, the defense held them to only 15 second change points.
Eye had two treys and was 4-for-4 from the line, while Michaelis registered 15 points of her own and had seven rebounds. Hudyn recorded a career-high 10 points which she paired with seven rebounds.
Mizzou had a 54.2 field goal percentage during the game, with 32 of 72 points coming from in the paint.
The Tigers continue their season next against Vanderbilt in Nashville Sunday, February 22, at 1 p.m.
