Mo. Democrats call on Blunt to donate Paris attack donations
JEFFERSON CITY - The Missouri Democratic Party is calling on Sen. Roy Blunt to donate the money he received for his reelection campaign because of an email about the Paris attacks to charity.
"Using the Paris terrorist attacks to solicit campaign contributions is politics at it's absolute worst," said Roy Temple, the chairman of the Missouri Democratic Party. He says, "Senator Blunt should immediately donate any money this email raised to charity."
Blunt sent an email Tuesday asking his supporters to sign a petition to stop the United States from accepting Syrian refugees into the country. At the bottom of that email was a web-link to donate to his reelection campaign.
Tate O'Connor, a member of Sen. Blunt's staff, said the standard format of Blunt's emails contain the donate button. O'Connor said it's "laughable" for the Missouri Democrats to push this issue because that was not the purpose of the email at all.
