Mo. Man Drowns in Southwest Missouri Lake
SPRINGFIELD (AP) - Cold water in Lake Springfield likely prevented a southwest Missouri man from reaching shore after his canoe capsized.
Springfield rescue officials say 41-year-old Michael Williams of Bruner died Sunday in the accident. A man who was with him in the canoe survived, but was treated for hypothermia.
The water at the time was between 45 and 50 degrees, and rescuers believe the cold prevented Bruner from reaching shore.
Rescuers recommend having a whistle or some other way to call for help if your boat tips. They say that might save precious minutes to increase survival chances during a water rescue.
