Mo. Woman Accused of Cheating Potential Renters
INDEPENDENCE - A western Missouri woman is accused of scamming a half-dozen potential tenants of a rental home she didn't own.
The Jackson County prosecutor's office says 44-year-old Amanda Paris, of Independence, was arrested and jail Tuesday on $25,000 cash bond. She did not yet have a lawyer.
Authorities said Paris rented a house in Blue Springs, then placed an ad on Craigslist saying the home was for rent despite a clause in her lease that barred subletting.
Over a one-month period starting in August, prosecutors say, at least six people responded to the ad and gave Paris initial rent payments of $1,200 each. She's accused of promising each of them a move-in date.
Blue Springs police are seeking anyone else who may have given her rent money.
