MOBERLY - The Moberly Police Department is offering the lobby of the Police Department as a "safe zone" for completing online transactions.

Police said the lobby and parking lot can be used by buyers and sellers who connect through online sites such as Craigslist, swap shops, and Ebay.

The staff will not oversee or get involved with transactions, but want to encourage the public to use the site. Police said they hope providing a "safe zone" could reduce the chance of people becoming victims of theft or even being harmed.

KOMU 8 News reported the Columbia Police lobby started serving as a safe online shopper zone this January.
