MoDOT Completes Project Early
A challenge that engineer Alan Trampe said was not possible to meet when he started at MoDOT 22 years ago.
"Twenty years ago, if you do a project maybe five miles long, it was a long project," he said.
In mid-Missouri, the initiative included all of Interstate 70, part of Highway 54 in Jefferson City and part of Highway 63 in Columbia. MoDOT said 86 percent of Missouri residents live within at least 10 miles of one of the roads or highways in the Smooth Roads Initiative.
MoDOT also said the early completion increased Missouri revenue by $133 million and saved taxpayers almost $2.2 million in maintenance costs. The department said it doesn't expect to tackle another project like this for seven to nine years.
