MoDOT: the public will stay informed throughout Missouri River Bridge repairs

MoDOT will have meetings through the end of July to provide information and answer questions about the construction in Rocheport.

Melissa Wilbers, the MoDOT project manager, said, "We're sharing with the public the details of the project. When we are letting the project, the type of work that we are doing. It really just keeps them informed of what is coming up in the next year."
In March, inspectors said the bridge was in poor condition and needed to be replaced. Wilbers said crews will repair the structure of the bridge and reseal the driving surface. The repairs are expected to add 10 to 15 years to the life of the bridge.
Wilbers said the project will bring major delays to the surrounding areas.
"There are projections of seven-to-nine mile backups," she said. "We've seen that in the inspection and during the expansion joint replacements."
The traffic will run head-to-head while crews are working on one side of the bridge. Wilbers said MoDOT will work to combat any delays by monitoring traffic, using signs and providing alternate routes.
Drivers on I-70 expressed concerns that MoDOT's efforts will not be enough. They said they are eager to meet with officials and see what is coming.
Construction is expected to begin in Spring of 2020.
