Mom Faces Murder Charges
Christina's White 6-month-old infant, Wayne Earl Anderson Jr., died Tuesday afternoon at University Hospital as a result of his serious injuries.
It's now a whole new case for prosecutors, and that's because Christina White is not only up for the previous charges she faces, but now one count of first-degree murder.
Wednesday, both the Miller County Sheriff and the Miller County prosecutor said with new charges like this, White could face the death penalty if found guilty in court.
"The prosecutor Matt Howard has filed first degree murder charges on the baby," sheriff Bill Abbott said in a press conference. "The sentence could be up to life imprisonment or the death penalty."
Abbott wouldn't delve into the specifics, but said Wayne's death has the community talking.
"It's bad. It's very very sad. Anybody that loses their life, especially an infant, it's sad," Abbott said.
"Because of the heightened scrutiny that a case like a homicide will receive on review, it's important that every step in the case be performed carefully and that any errors or mistakes are eliminated," said Prosecutor Matt Howard.
Howard says the death penalty hasn't been ruled out.
White will be arraigned on murder charges on August 13.
White's family expressed the hope that she gets the death penalty.
