MoonYoga Hosts Yoga for DanceAbility
COLUMBIA - MoonYoga teamed up with DanceAbility for a donation-based, outdoor yoga class Sunday at Logboat Brewing Company.
DanceAbility is a program under the School of Missouri Contemporary Ballet that gives dancers with special needs an opportunity to explore the world of dance.
Through the program, dancers can perform in stage productions once or twice a year.
“Since they do have special needs, they maybe feel a little bit not involved in the community in certain ways. So, this is to make them have a little sense of normalcy in their lives and get to explore dance which is a happy thing to all of us,” Moon Yoga instructor Amber Treece said.
100 percent of the donations will go to DanceAbility.
“We try to do one to two of these donation events a month if it works out with scheduling. I just donate my time as a teacher,” Treece said.
Meaghan Olsen is an active participant in Yoga For A Cause. She attends each donation-based class through MoonYoga every month. She mentioned the Yoga for DanceAbilty's significance to the community.
“Getting people outside and moving and flowing, and for a good cause is always so important. This one is really awesome too because the dance element really plays it so well with the Yoga element,” Olsen said.
DanceAbility’s next event is "Under the Sea," a spring showcase on May 12 at the Stephens College Windsor Auditorium.
