More Red Light Cameras in Columbia
COLUMBIA - Crews will get to work in about four to six weeks here with the camera up and running by the beginning of October. This is part of a program where the city signed a contract with Gatso to install a total of 16 cameras.
This new camera will make six so far, meaning ten left to go. Earlier this summer, Gatso came and performed traffic studies at other possible locations like Providence and Stuart. But without the college population in town, the city will wait to retest that location and others downtown and so far the city says the cameras are paying off.
The city hopes to have three or four more cameras installed by the end of the year and the rest of the 16 by the end of 2011.
